Impact on Women
Statistics indicates the rise of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) affecting both men and women and according to the studies that some of these STDs are asymptomatic in women, especially gonococcal and chlamydial infections. Moreover, women are considered vulnerable in the biological, socio-economic, and cultural senses, thus when faced with problems, especially those involving the reproductive organs, they fail to seek help. And these sexually transmitted infections are fatal, causing major health problems such as cervical cancer, ectopic pregnancy, sepsis, etc. and can also affect the health of the foetus (if pregnant), causing blindness or stillbirth. Often, the lack of response of women in matters of reproductive health is traced back on the lack of information and awareness regarding these issues.

Beauty & the Beasts
Meanwhile, a number of institutions and organisations have been established over the years to cater the different needs of the women and these various endeavours have created quite a stir too many women to participate. These organisations aim to reduce the number of infections, thus reducing the deaths brought about by diseases of the female reproductive system.
