Behavioral Birth Control Methods

PregnancyThe most basic in preventing pregnancy is to do one of the behavioral birth control methods. The idea of behavioral birth control is to eliminate the union of the sperm and egg from physically happening. In fact, abstinence is the most effective method of contraception. It even eliminates the risk of sexually transmitted disease spread. However, abstinence may not be for everybody. For people who choose to be sexually active, other behavioral methods can be used. Examples are fertility awareness, outercourse and the most ineffective, coitus interruptus. Behavioral birth control methods do have disadvantages, but the down sides are often caused by emotional strains in the relationship caused by these sexual behaviors.

Outercourse is a general term that may or may not be an effective birth control method. Kissing, fondling, cuddling are just a few examples of outercourse. However, oral sex, anal sex, and dry humping are also part of this category. Sexual intimacy is promoted in outercourse but penetration does not happen with these acts. The sexual act is defined as the penetration of male genitalia into the female vagina. In any of the outercourse examples, penetration or stimulation happens from the outside of the female genitals. Hence, there is no risk of impregnating the woman because the sperm does not actually swim within the insides of the female.
